network problems with Xen on Gentoo Dec2005

As I mentioned in this post, I was having problems with networking from inside a domU (or an image of an OS running inside Xen). To fix this, I ended up hacking on /etc/xen/scripts/network-bridge to get it fixed.

It appears that when using bridged networking on Gentoo, because of the way the network devices are setup, the actual network interface itself was not being added to the bridge device. So, to fix it, I had to collect all the info from the interface, add that interface to the bridge, then set the bridge up with the ip and route from real interface. Wasn't a big deal, but was a drag to track down. I'm still not sure if I'm doing the right thing, but it's working, so that does give me a warm fuzzy.

Now, I just need to get a patch together and submit it to the gentoo folk.

These thoughts are my own, unless they're yours. And if they're yours, we may have metaphysical problems beyond simple concept ownership and should probably talk soon.
