DirectBuy, DirectDon't! Mar2006

I went to see the DirectBuy presentation this weekend.

Here's the short story - you can buy stuff at wholesale cost, but it will cost you a LOT of money up front.

To join their club, you pay them $5000 ($4971 iirc) for the first two years, then $190 after that for the next eight years. The deals they have are incredible, but I calculated that I'd have to spend right at about $26000 with them over the next 10 years (not including the membership charges of $6520) to just break even.

I wasn't willing to do that. If I had rental properties or something similar that I had to keep furnished, this would be an awesome thing to do. But, for a young couple expecting a child soon and not planning on decorating to the 9's in their home, it just didn't make sense.

These thoughts are my own, unless they're yours. And if they're yours, we may have metaphysical problems beyond simple concept ownership and should probably talk soon.
